Sunflower or Sunsuck...you take your pick. I choose the latter.
My company's holiday lunch was hosted here. I feel bad for making the recommendation because I pride myself on knowing restaurants. Having heard good things, but never having tried the place, I thought the place at least had a fair chance.
Starting with the service. What service? The restaurant was empty of patrons and apparently of servers. Ours kept disappearing for such long lengths of time that I had to pull him aside and have a conversation about what decent service consisted of. Oh like maybe showing up at the table for drink orders within a 10 minute period of sitting-I would of said two minutes, but that seemed to be stretching it for him.
The food portions were small and unimpressive. The burgers could have fit in the palm of my hand, and I have small hands. My Pad Thai was flavorless. Only redeeming thing about the meal were the desserts that were a little more than mediocre.
Luckily, I have since redeemed myself at my company for suggesting this place to celebrate the holidays

SOBO American Bistro
SOBO is delicious, sophisticated and just the right mix of casual and contemporary.
I am in love with fish right now and am working or rather eating my way through every type of fish to find the favorites and flesh out the bad. My first visit to SOBO was with my dear friend, after a day of the slopes we wanted some sophistication combined with good food and well mixed spirits. We found both.
Starting with a glass of Malbec, we shared a a roasted beet and goat cheese salad. I went out on a whim and choose the special (I consider myself a picky food snob and usually go for the tried and true menu items, but this sounded too good to pass up)-an Arctic Char with a mint tzatziki sauce, served with a wild rice cake and braised mushrooms and swiss chard.
Oh medley of flavors! This was incredible.
My "date" choose a sea bass steeped in a miso broth with bok choy and fennel salad. The plump shrimp dumpling floating in the broth added just another bite of mouth excitement.
Our desserts were another round of drinks. I choose to move on from wine to the Harvey Wallbanger...a grown-up, refreshing twist on vodka and fruity mixed drinks.
I love the open kitchen aspect of the place and SOBO sports an amazing glass wine cellar. My only complaints would be our server could have been a bit more knowledgeable about the food and the noise levels tend to be a bit high with the industrial type ceilings.
This will be a place on my meals-to-remember list.

Minturn Saloon
Howdy Partner!
Step back in time at the Minturn Saloon with it's quirky, homey and crude decor and servers. Crude is not meant to be an insult, rather the decor and servers add to the environment. This place has enough character plus, some. The plank floors, signed movie star pictures on the wall, sun withered, long haired wait staff that have been with the restaurant for for 20+ years, enormous bull horns hanging-yep it's an experience.
Now, the food is Mexican with an offering of thick and tasty barbecue as well- not exceptional, but with pitchers of beer or margaritas to wash it down the caliber goes way up.
Try this place after a long day of skiing as the portions and the atmosphere is huge....bring along a bunch of rowdy friends-this place is not for the quiet or shy-and be ready for a good time. I can almost see the rounds of tequila now...

Redfish New Orleans Brewhouse
So my review will not be complete until I eat a full meal here.
BUT, I needed a spot to rave about the fabulous mussels they serve.
So, they call themselves a Brewhouse, however, this is most definately not the feel. No stinky wood slabs, no beer stains on the floor. Walking in you find yourself surrounded by red velvet seats, shiny metal tables and a beautiful slate bar top.
You have now entered a classy brewhouse. One that serves up a rocking good happy hour. Here is where I start to rave about the mussels... (Drumroll) I may even have to visit tonight once I start thinking about them.
This bowl full of mussels, piled high, simmered in wine and butter and herb sauce. Served with crusty toast points. Oh it's heaven. I always ask for extra bread to mop the savory, yet spicy sauce.
Sharing isn't an option once you taste the goodness. Sip a glass of wine alongside the dish and it's a sophisticated and light meal. (Just ignore the bread and butter of course.)
Visit Jamie, and you will meet the cutest bartender in town. If you're a single woman, he may even find you a date at the bar that night...

Snarf's
Oh Snarf's!
I admit, I took a long time figuring out that "Snarf", meant, well Snarf.
Think about it.
Snarf's provides the solution for that craving, the one where you want a crunchy bready outside, stuffed with peppers, onions, avocado, feta cheese, sprouts, lettuce and provolone. Oh did I mention it's hot too?!
Well, the above sandwich may be my favorite, but you can't go wrong with a hot toasty sub. With about 20 different combos of sandwiches, there is sure to be something for everyone. They also offer salads for the healthier minded, but really, who orders a salad when they came for hot crispy bread!
Service can be a bit slow. It gets crowded at lunch, so go early or late. A little known secret-yes I am letting the world lunchers in. Call ahead and your sandwich will be hot and ready when you get there.
I see chalkboards with lists of yummy sounding milkshakes...I know they exist, but am ignoring them. I don't need another diet downfall. I believe that as long as I never ever try one, I can pretend that Snarf's just doesn't have them.

Crepes N' Crepes
I love the little places with an authentic feel. Where your server might speak only a little English that is heavily accented. Where the creaky gate reminds you of Europe in all the movies. Where your menu is in both French and English. And where your cappuccinos are whipped to unbelievable creamy heights.
If you are looking for such a place, then Crepes N' Crepes is your next meal.
I have had dessert crepes and savory crepes here and have never been disappointed. My first visit was with a visiting French Doctor, we stopped in and savored those fluffy, creamy cappuccinos along with delicious Crepe Suzette and of course the crepe with Nutella and Strawberries. (Surprise? I am a woman!)
My second and third visits-I fell in love with the Spinach Feta Crepe. So much spinach and feta all wrapped in a savory Buckwheat crepe.
I love the two little sauces they serve with the savory crepes, a pesto sauce and a slightly fiery roasted red pepper sauce. Just adds that extra touch of care to the meal.
Oh and don't forget the happy hour bottles of wine! Half price!
So for a cheap date, but oh so romantic or a girls night out, you might want to give Crepes N' Crepes a taste.

Dot's Diner
So if Brasserie Ten Ten is the place where you take a few extra minutes to tidy up before going to, Dots is most definitely the opposite.
Dots is a favorite after a hard morning workout, still in workout clothes needing sustenance to later collapse on the couch watching TV or reading.
It's no frills, fast and always hot and delicious and most definitely serving the best biscuits in town.
I find a favorite item at almost any restaurant and will usually order the same thing. While I have tried several items at Dots, my favorite is the Farmer's Scramble.
A combo of scrambled eggs, onions, peppers, sausage (they score major bonus points for also offering vegan/vegetarian sausage), avocado, tomato. Served with delicious home fries and that big, buttery, fluffy biscuit. Oh, it's good news for a hungry tummy!
I like both the Hill and 28th street locations, it's a different feel at each one, but both equally as good!
Now, breakfast is good anytime...and it may be 10:30 at night, but I am thinking about that fried egg sandwich that I eye every time I visit Dots....maybe it will have to be included in my next new breakfast adventure!

Brasserie Ten Ten
This could quite possibly be my favorite place to brunch in Boulder if I want to take a few extra moments to tidy myself after rolling out of bed.
Not every brunch morning calls for crisp white tablecloths, professional service and beautiful presentation with unique flavors, but on the mornings that do, Ten Ten is your stop.
The coffee is hot and flavorful, the service impeccable, the water without ice and oh how to choose your breakfast...
I prefer to start with a buttery, flaky, steaming hot croissant. Just break it and savor it slowly while sipping the strong coffee.
My breakfast of choice has been the Egg's Florentine. A yummy twist on a Benedict. Start with a toasted English Muffin, layer with spinach, tomato, guacamole, a poached egg and hollendaise sauce. Served with a side of crispy home fries.
Now, I know your thinking, nice brunch, white tablecloths-must be expensive. Not only is the food delicious, the damage to your wallet is minimal. Who else in town does an Eggs Florentine for only $8.50?
I am working up the courage to save enough room after brunch to try dessert. Warm Sticky Date Cake....I have my eye on you.

The Tea Spot
Gourmet tea at its best!
I see complaints on other sites about price and length of time to steep-but loose leaf tea is a speciality and needs to be properly brewed. Plus, do you really want to drink old, dusty bagged teas, that may or may not have lots of chemicals in the paper covering the flavorless bags? I didn't think so.
Warm and welcoming interior; I imagine afternoon tea with the girls, or snuggling down with a good book.
Try one of the new tea inspired hand-crafted chocolates! I recommend the mint one!
My tea was delicious-a coconut flavor. Steeped to perfection and the perfect drink to warm my hands up on one of the first chilly days in november.
Plus, you can buy all their tins of tea and steep mugs! I just saw that The Tea Spots steeping mug was rated as a top gift in Self Magazine. Can't wait to get mine!

The Greenbriar Inn
I have driven past the Greenbriar for two years now on my way to either the mountains or to catch some dirt at Hall Ranch. Always thinking or commenting outloud-"I really should try that place sometime." Well, maybe I should have waited a bit longer.
I look forward to Boulder First Bite all year-Boulder's version of Restaurant week, where all the amatures venture to more expensive places and more experienced diners try to move out of their comfort zone for a prix fixe meal at a participating restaurant.
The Greenbriar Inn is cozy. It is in the country. It has candles, mini table lamps, low hung dark wood and a fireplace. The appearance is appealing but the atmosphere is lacking. A bit stuffy-but in an outdated sort of a way.
But ah, the point of actually being there? Food and service.
Service was slow and the server was a bit over worked with too many tables. My biggest pet peeve of the service? How long we sat before the waters were filled.
I started my meal with the Carmel Apple Gnocchi. Just the right amount of sweetness and enough sauce to mop the plate with the fresh bread served to the table.
My main course was outstanding. A Pistachio Crusted Steelhead Trout with Crab Mashed Potatoes, Wilted Greens and a lemon butter sauce.
I would have licked the plate clean if it had been appropriate. Every part of the dish was excellent and I was satisfied portion wise.
After cleaning my plate and throughly enjoying my entree it would be hard to go wrong one would think-it's dessert after all. Oh how far and fast the meal went downhill. My dessert-the Chocolate Peanut Butter Napoleon was inedible. And that, is a rarity for me. My dessert was sampled by the table and left virtually untouched. When I order Chocolate Peanut Butter Napoleon I expect a tower of layers of rich chocolate cake with fluffy peanut butter mousse in between. I was served a dry, minty, freezer burned square. The only saving grace was the mini chocolate chip cookie (?Missing the theme with the rest of the dessert).
I will probably not eat at Greenbriar again, and will most certainly not recommend for dessert. But for an evening with the girls, the food was good, the company was great. If I had to give the place stars it would rate three stars (out of five)-food based only. Don't worry ladies-the 10 star rating goes to you.

Q's Restaurant
Delicious!
Q's has been on my radar since I had brunch there several months after first moving to Boulder. Food was excellent then, I just hadn't made it back-that is until last night.
Sumptious food and classy service. (And I must say, I am picky about service).
I visited Q's in November for Boulder First Bite with a group of friends. After ordering several bottles of wine for the table we settled to the task of choosing our courses.
After much debating, I settled on a crisp romaine caesar salad with garlic caper dressing. I am not usually a crouton girl-but I only wish more had come tossed with this mouth watering crunchy and fresh salad.
My entre was baked sole with an orange glaze, roasted spaghetti squash and crispy potato strings. My first time having sole (yes I have Soul now), and although not a huge fan of the fish, it was prepared excellently and every part of dish was perfect. Garnish's were appropriate, orange combined nicely with the flakiness of the fish. The best part? This dish was so well porportioned that I couldn't even finish it!
Now, lets talk dessert. I consider myself a cheesecake snob-and a top snob at that. But this cheesecake is well worth coming back for to savor with an espresso. Pumpkin and goatcheese cheesecake with a brittle on top. Oh my..!
If chocolate is your thing (and is mine too)... I reached across the table and helped myself to a taste of this gorgeous chocolate marquis-this pyramid of decadent dark chocolate with a malt ball chocolate sauce on the side....mmm...mmmm.
Oh Q's you will never be forgotten..

Old Chicago
Two reasons to go here and none have to do with the food.
1. Incredible beer selection.
2. Good sports watching with guy watching in the bar.
If you must order food, may I suggest the nachos, but bring an army because they are huge! Rest of food is salty and mediocre. I keep trying it like it will change, but nada.
And you would think in Boulder a veggie burger would be on their menu. No such luck. Really? Yep that's Old C's stuck way back in time before Boulder went all granola crunchy and vegetarian. Last I checked restaurants are supposed to evolve with the times and patronage....

The Kitchen
Quite possibly one of the gems of Pearl Street. Such a fun and classy atmosphere.
You have two areas to choose from-A downstairs seating area with an open kitchen. The decor makes you feel like you are eating in an old world European kitchen, complete with butcher block tables, a slatted wood floor and brick walls. Service is quick and helpful.
One of my favorite meals to date (and not just talking about this restaurant) started off with Wood Fired Mussels in a white wine broth. Can I say delicious?
Next a plate of yummy hand-cut frites, steaming hot with parmesan and herbs.
And oh my entre, grilled snapper with swiss chard. Heaven in a fish! So light and flaky! To date, I am still attempting to have a fish cooked so well as that night.
Dessert is a must and should not be turned down!
For a more city feel, head to the Kitchen Upstairs, with a wine and drink list to drool for and cozy couches to canoodle on with your sweetie or gab with the girls.
Always a spectacular evening at the Kitchen-Upstairs or down.

Bacaro Venetian Tavern
Happy Hour is the only time worth coming here. Good drinks and food at decent prices. Try the pizza's!
Service is slow, so make sure it's not a quick in-an-out. I avoid dinner, because it is overpriced and generally hit or miss in terms of the dish. Ordered a ravioli there recently and asked for several spices to make it a bit more palatable. Rest of my group was equally unimpressed with their meals.
Unless you are drunk or are into the stumbling bumbling college student thing, avoid this place at all costs after 10 pm on weekend evenings. It turns into a screaming, drunken out of control mass of people

West End Tavern
This place is a nicer, classy, less of a college student haven than a lot of the bar/restaurants on Pearl.
Everything would be just right for a young professionals hangout, that is except for the un-godly slow bar service. So slow, that it is to the point where I will beg to go someplace else unless someone else wants to try and order a drink for me for 15plus minutes.
I keep trying to give this place a chance, but my patience with being the last served at the bar is running low.

Folsom Street Coffee Shop
I go here as a last resort for a coffee shop, and only if I have lots of time to kill as the service is slower than molasses in January.
I have found the drinks to be inconsistent with an overall quality of just "ok". Baked goods, while a decent selection are displayed messily and often times are a bit dry.

The Cup
A fabulous cup of coffee in a fabulous atmosphere. Not to mention a menu that caters to a breakfast or light lunch crowd. Try a panani with grilled vegetables, pesto and goat cheese on multigrain, or satisfy a sweet tooth with one of their many pastries.
Perfectly blended coffee drinks, artfully poured into your cup to enjoy while surfing the web or people watching.
